Gilmer County, Georgia, Jan. 26, 1860; s. of Iley and Mary (Henderson) Compton; educ. pub. schls., Georgia; Univ. of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark.; became farmer and stockraiser; came to New Mexico, 1905 and practiced law in Portales; probate judge, Roosevelty County, 1907-9; mem. Masons.
