May 27, 1867, near Galesburg, Ill.; S. of Louis H. and Sarah (Crosby) Heflin; early educ. public schools Illinois; commercial course, Denver (Colo.) Univ., 1892 followed minig for several years in Creede, Cripple Creek and Silverton, Colo., 1892-1900; 2nd lieut company volunteers organized in Creede, Colo., 1898, for service in Spanish-American war; removed to New Mexico, 1900, locating in Flora Vista, as fruit grower and merchant; has always been active in politics, but never as a candidate; school director, 1902-10; removed to Farmington, N. M., 1910, and established merc. business; pres. Farmington Bd. of Trade; elected Nov. 7, 1911, as first treas. and collector, San Juan county, under state govt. Member, Sons of Veterans.
