H. O. BURSUM, merchant and stockraiser; chairman Tre. Terr. Central Committee, (Rep.) delegate Socorro Co.; b. Fort Dodge, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1867; s. of Frank O. and Marie Bursum; early educ. Fort Dodge; removed to Boulder, Colo., 1878; later employed by Colorado Tele. Co. in Denver; came to New Mex. 1881; 1882 worked in general mdse. store in San Antonio; took freight contract , Fort Wingate, 1890; 1892 constructed railroad from Mitchell to Zuni mountains; 1893 engaged in sheep business in San Antonio and Socorro; interested in Rio Grande Supply Co., Socorro; sheriff Socorro Co., 1895-9; mem. New Mex. senate, 1899; warden terr. penitentiary, 1899-1906; delegate National Rep. con. 1904-8; chairman Terr. Rep. Central Comm since 1904; mayor Socorro, past three terms; Rep. candidate for governor in first state election.
