Lawyer and banker of Clovis, NM, and had extensive agricultural interests throughout Curry County. Born in southwest Missouri, January 16, 1877, and attended public schools there and at the Southwest Baptist College at Bolivar, Mo., where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1897. For another year he studied at the University of Missouri and completed his law course at the University of Texas. He came to New Mexico in 1908 where he homesteaded near Tucumcari, in Quay County. In 1909 he moved to Clovis where he commenced the practice of law. From 1912 to 1916 he was assistant district attorney and subsequently served as city attorney for a period of 6 years. Mr. Hockenhull has been prominent in the Democratic Party. During the World War he served as a member of the Lawyers Committee and the Council of Defense. On November 20, 1901, Mr. Hockenhull was married to Miss Maine Drake at Bolivar, Mo. They had three daughters, Gertrude, Virginia, and Helen. The oldest daughter, Gertrude, died several years ago. In 1930 Mr. Hockenhull was elected lieutenant governor. He was reelected in 1932. Upon the death of Gov. Arthur Seligman in September 1933 he became Governor and served as such until December 31, 1934. Since May 31, 1939, he was postmaster at Clovis, N. Mex. Died:June 20, 1974
