Glencoe, Ruidoso Valley, Coe Family
Coes settled here in 1880; Jasper N. Coe was the first postmaster. The Coes were among the early pioneers of Lincoln and Otero Counties. Originally from Missouri, several brothers worked the Santa Fe trail and homesteaded near Las Vegas, but in the 1870s they moved south. They got caught up in the Lincoln County War, backed the losing McSween faction, and moved away but soon returned. Their descendeants still live in the area.
