Born in Franklin County, Mo., October 20, 1864; son of Miles Parsons and Sarah (Sappington) Hinkle; attended rural schools in Missouri and University of Missouri; moved to New Mexico in 1885 and settled in Lincoln County; manager and part owner of the Penasco Cattle Co.; manager of South Spring Cattle Co.; vice president of First National Bank of Roswell; served as county commissioner and county treasurer of Lincoln County; 11 years member of Territorial tax board; elected as member of Territorial house of representatives 1892; elected to Territorial senate 1901; elected to the State senate 1912 and served three terms in succession; mayor of Roswell for 2 years, 1904 1906; elected Governor of State in 1922; married Miss Lillie Roberts on December 14, 1892, and they have four children Rolla R., Vera M., Clarence E., and Lillian A.; member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Lived in Roswell, N. Mex., where he had extensive agricultural interests and was chairman of the board of directors of the First National Bank. Died March 26, 1951.
