Laguna Pueblo

Laguna Pueblo

Laguna pueblo, with a population of around 8,000, is the largest Keresan-speaking pueblo. Located 45 miles west of Albuquerque, the Laguna Reservation land totals around 42 square miles.
The area around Laguna holds evidence of archaic Indian presence as early as 3,000 B.C. It is believed that Laguna, like Acoma was a boundary between the Ancestral Pueblo people to the north and the Mogollon people to the south. The pueblo has been lived in at its current location by Laguna people since at least 1300 A.D.
Currently Laguna is comprised of six villages — Encinal, Laguna, Mesita, Paguate, Paraje and Seama – which are in total home to around 3,800 people.
