Today the sleeping little village of Watrous, New Mexico belies its history. Formerly called La Junta de los Ríos, as it sits between the junction of the Mora and Sapello Rivers, this location was key to the commerce of northern New Mexico. It was an important spot on the Santa Fe Trail, a supply location for Ft. Union, and a major shipping point for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway.
