Upton;  educ. pub, schools, Weatherford, Texas; captain company “Minute Men” to put down lawlessness in early days in south Texas; located in San Angelo, Texas, 1880; nominated for Texas legislature 1883, but refused to run; came to New Mexico, 1887, and located in Grant Co.;  in Luna Co., 1896; chairman Grant Co., Dem. Central Committee two terms; elected mem. joint statehood convention 1906; mem. New Mex. senate, 1909: mem. 32 deg. Masons; Elks.
