E. S. STOVER. Retired merchant, (Rep.) delegate Bernalillo Co; b. Nov. 22, 1836. Rockland, Maine; s. of Hezekiah and Mary (Pillsbury) Stover; educ. pub. and private schools New England; sailor 8 years until 1857; removed to Kansas, 1858; entered Union Army May 14, 1861, and was promoted to 1st lieut., Dec.; captain, 1863.; served until close of civil war; 1866-76 in real estate business in Council Groves, Kans.; came to New Mexico 1876, entering merc. bus. In Albuquerque, retiring about 1890; mem. Kansas House of Rep., 1865-7; Kansas senate. 1870-2; lieut. gov. Kansas, 1872-4; co. comm. Bernalillo Co. 1881-3: New Mexico senate, 1891; mem. and pres. board of regents New Mexico Univ., 1891-1910; mem. New Mex. Constitutional Convention, 1889; mem. Masons since 1865; Grand Master New Mex. Grand Lodge A. F. & A. M., 1901; Past Dept. Commander G. A. R.
