H. B. FERGUSSON, attorney, (Dem.) delegate Bernalillo Co.; b. Sept. 9, 1848, Pickens Co., Alabama; s. of Dr. S. N. and Mary D. Fergusson; early educ. schools Pickens Co.; later private schools of Noxubee Co., Miss.; grad. Washington and Lee Univ. M. A., 1873; law dept., 1874; asst. princ. Shenandoah Valley Academy, Winchester, Va., 1874-6; practiced law, Wheeling, W. Va., 1876-82; came to White Oaks, N. M., 1882-4; to Albuquerque, 1884; district atty. 2nd Judicial Dist., 1885-7; delegate to 55th national congress, 1897-9; mem. Natl. Dem. Comm., 1894-1908; father was capt.1st Co. Confederate soldiers from Pickens Co., serving under Gen. John T. Morgan; elected Nov. 7, 1911, as one of the first members of Congress from the State of New Mexico; mem. Elks.
